Formed in New York in 1993 around Chris Leo, The Van Pelt carved out their own corner of the post-hardcore underground with intricate guitars, spoken-word vocals and literary songwriting. Albums Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves and Sultans Of Sentiment became cult favourites, with the band's reputation growing long after their 1997 split. Following reunions, the archival Imaginary Third and 2023's Artisans & Merchants, they now present fifth album Remain Obscure, pushing their distinctive post-hardcore and indie rock into further unexpected territory.
