Original Swell Maps drummer / pianist Epic Soundtracks (also a member of Crime and the City Solution & These Immortal Souls), with encouragement from Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Kim Gordon struck out as a solo singer-songwriter in 1991, releasing the album Rise Above on Rough Trade in 1992.

12 dates, accompanied by Kevin Junior, the final show in Hamburg, at Knust, a slaughterhouse turned arts venue in the St.Pauli district of the city. This was to be the last show Epic would ever play. Just two weeks later, on 6th November 1997, he would pass away in his West Hampstead flat.
